Flyways Communications Officer
We are looking for a Flyways Communications Officer to ensure AFI’s message and impact are clearly and compellingly communicated across all channels.

Full-time: 40 hours per week
Contract: Fixed-term, 18 months
Salary: 20,400 USD gross, per annum

The Americas Flyways Initiative (AFI) is a strategic and transformative partnership among Audubon, BirdLife International, and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF). AFI offers a unique approach to biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation by integrating and scaling up nature-based solutions (NbS) and bird-friendly large-scale infrastructure projects.
We are looking for a Flyways Communications Officer to join the team. In this role you will be responsible for coordinating, implementing, evaluating, and contributing to all AFI's strategic communications under the supervision of AFI's Comms Lead.
This is a pivotal role - you will be ensuring AFI’s message and impact are clearly and compellingly communicated across all channels, aligning with partnership values and strategic goals.
How you will do this:
- Help shape and deliver AFI’s communications strategy and plans
- Create and manage content across platforms - web, social media, press, and more - to boost visibility and engagement
- Keep our messaging clear, consistent, and on-brand across all channels
- Build strong relationships with media, partners, and key audiences
- Support events, campaigns, and day-to-day comms activities
- Monitor media, public opinion, and social media performance to improve our reach and impact
- Manage content libraries and coordinate with external providers when needed
- Occasionally represent AFI at events or as a spokesperson
What we are looking for:
- A Degree or equivalent in communications, PR, journalism, advertising, or a related field
- Strong copywriting and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging, message-driven content
- Experience working in a multi-stakeholder communications team, including internal comms
- Skilled in strategic and creative communications, public relations, and multimedia production
- Well-organised, able to juggle tasks and meet deadlines, with a proactive, solution-focused mindset
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, comfortable in multicultural settings
- Fluent in English and Spanish (spoken and written)
- Confident using MS Office and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro)
Some nice to haves:
- Media contacts or experience with press relations
- Knowledge of the non-profit or conservation sector
- Exposure to environmental topics and technical language
