Consultancy - Project Technical Manager, Tsitongambarika Natural Reserve
We are looking for a Consultant to provide technical oversight for the Asity TGK forest project, ensuring the long-term sustainability of one of Madagascar’s most important conservation sites.

Asity Madagascar, BirdLife’s International Madagascar country partner, co-manages Tsitongambarika Natural Reserve (TGK) with local communities and plays a leading role in promoting sustainable livelihoods, community-based forest management, and forest protection.
We are looking for a Consultant Project Technical Manager, to lead a six-month assignment focused on establishing best practices across the TGK forest project, including taking on Site Management responsibilities for an interim period.
This role will focus on strengthening systems, mentoring the team, and ensuring operational excellence in core implementation areas. The Consultant will provide hands-on support, strategic oversight, and capacity-building to lay the foundation for long-term success, contributing to the sustainability and effective protection of one of Madagascar’s most important conservation sites.

EXPECTED DELIVERABLES:
- Monthly TGK workplan and budget, agreed with all team members and signed off by the Asity Forest Programme Coordinator and REDD+ Director, and Birdlife International.
- Monthly TGK narrative and financial reports.
- Monthly site management report detailing project oversight and capacity building achievements, challenges and recommendations.
- Professional development plans produced and implemented for all mid- and senior-level TGK staff.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Master’s degree in environmental management, geography, conservation, natural resource management or related field.
- Fluent in French and English, Malagasy highly desirable.
- Substantial experience in developing, managing and monitoring protected area management programmes in complex contexts.
- Multi-disciplinary knowledge of approaches to tropical biodiversity conservation in contexts such as Madagascar.
- Proven track record pro-actively leading and managing large conservation field teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Proven track record at effectively and sensitively engaging and negotiating with a range of stakeholders (from communities to government).
- Strong ethical compass with the ability to instil a culture of accountability and community-oriented conservation implementation.
- Ability and willingness to live and work in a remote and undeveloped region of Madagascar.
