Forest Programme Manager - Americas
We are looking for a Forest Programme Manager – Americas, to lead the planning, management, coordination, and the monitoring and evaluation of regional Forest Programme projects and activities.

Salary: USD 2565 monthly
Annual Leave: 21 days pro rata in year 1, increasing by 1 day pa to 25 days

We are looking for a Forest Programme Manager – Americas, to lead the planning, management, coordination, supervision, and the monitoring and evaluation of Forest Programme projects and activities in the region. In this role you will be coordinating closely with the Forest Programme Global Team to carry forward actions in the Americas that form part of global initiatives/priorities.
How you will do this:
- Lead and manage the Americas Forest Programme by expanding transboundary programmes and establishing or maintaining partnerships.
- Oversee project scoping, development, fundraising, and provide technical oversight, quality control, and coordination for projects within the Forest Landscape Accelerator Programme, BirdLife’s Restoration Portfolio, and Carbon Portfolio.
- Lead and/or contribute to proposal development to secure funding for the Americas Forest Programme.
- Collaborate with the Senior Sites and Landscapes Advisor to enhance transboundary initiatives across key regions.
- Coordinate the development of REDD+, ARR, and ALM projects for voluntary carbon markets, in collaboration with BirdLife Global and carbon project developers.
- Offer technical advice to BirdLife partners on forest restoration and agroforestry activities that align with biodiversity conservation goals.
- Recruit and manage consultants, especially within BirdLife’s Atlantic Forest initiative, to create sustainable financial instruments/mechanisms for forest conservation and restoration.
- Support the Americas Secretariat team and collaborate with BirdLife’s global and regional teams to achieve forest Programme objectives.
Ideally you will have:
- At least 8 years’ experience with deep knowledge of deforestation trends and drivers, and strategies and technologies to reduce forest loss and encourage forest landscape restoration.
- Strong grasp of regional political, socio-economic and cultural issues, and how these influence the conservation and restoration of forest ecosystems in North, Central and south America and the Caribbean.
- Ideally, the candidate holds strong knowledge and/or experience in scoping and developing carbon finance projects for voluntary or compliance-based carbon markets.
- Proven ability to design, manage and co-ordinate programmes, projects and budgets to completion with a proven ability to secure funds.
- Familiarity with international conservation issues, including relevant multilateral environmental agreements and instruments.
- Familiarity with regional bird conservation priorities.
- Substantial work experience and proven track record in forest conservation and restoration, sustainable forestry and agroforestry, biodiversity conservation and development fundraising, strategic planning, Programme and project development, and management of conservation impact, preferably at international level.
